Update: Looks like I’ll be keeping my artist name as Mons (since it is my actual name). Hooray!
Well after many years, the new album is done, printed and available for sale. I had a hugely successful album release over the weekend and sold almost all of the first printing of the cd. I’m ecstatic at [...]

Mons – Dreaming in Sepia (Album Sample)
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
I’m in the depths of the final preparations for my album release (October 31st!), but I thought I would throw up a short clip from one of the new songs on the album. This is music inspired by a beautiful poem written by [...]

To give you an idea of what I’ve been working on, I’ve included the (beta) album version of Dandelion at the top of the post. It represents what I’m doing with the album, which will be a mix of re-recorded/re-mastered existing material that you may have listened to before, and some new material that you have not. The original version of Dandelion was only about 2 minutes long, and an incomplete vision of the song. A sketch if you will, as are many of the bits and pieces I post online. The album versions are the complete vision, and so Dandelion is re-imagined in its full 6-minute length with a lot of new material and revision of the old material.

I now have use of a decent dv camera, so I hope to record and post some video of my live performances, playing and improvisation. I’m hoping to get a decent mic so that I can do video of my playing a real piano, as my style with a weighted keyboard is quite different than [...]

Mons – Dancing in the Light (Doreen’s Theme)
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
When I announced that I would write a theme song for the winner of my Unnamed Melody Contest, I was intending to do a short, simple and memorable fanfare like the opening of the Superman Theme. Sometimes I get carried away with [...]

Mons – Silhouettes
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
UPDATE: I’ve chosen “Sillhouettes” as the name for the previously “Unnamed Melody”. Thanks Doreen and everyone else who gave suggestions and feedback! See the full contest results here.
This is a song I wrote a week or two ago for piano, cello/viola and choir. It’s a sad [...]

Mons – Last Night
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
This is a Piano piece I recorded several years ago. It, like the other “rambles” is an unplanned, unedited live performance (as is the bulk of my piano work). This is a quieter, slower song than the previous songs that I’ve posted – the upbeat piano [...]

Mons – Good Morning (Album Sample)
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
This is another very recent “Ramble” (ie: a live unplanned original performance), but unlike the last one which was synth and drums, this is done on the piano. I think I was inspired in part by the freshness and beauty of morning sunlight streaming [...]

Mons – Ramble (090521)
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
I play my piano/keyboard every day. I have to. If I don’t play for a day or two, my hands start to twitch and I start playing imaginary pianos on table tops and stuff. So, usually for at least 30 minutes a day, I’ll sit and [...]

Mons – Angelus
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
Note: This song can be found on the new album.
I actually have this one available on my reverbnation widget on the right hand side there with a bunch of other songs, but I figured I should feature it in it’s own post. It also makes it [...]
