About Mons

What to say?  I’m from Winnipeg (Canada) and have been playing music for as long as I can remember.  Since I was about 5 I guess.  I’ve been writing music and improvising for almost as long, so writing music is a fundamental part of who I am.  It’s my primary creative outlet and often how I express emotion.  I play several instruments, including piano, drums/percussion, guitar and a little of this and that.  I have an erhu, but no erhu teacher, a situation which I am attempting to remedy.

My non-musical interests include travel (I’ve spent long periods traveling through China and Europe/North Africa recently), Economics (my academic field of study), Martial Arts (baguazhang), sports and various other fairly normal things.  I’m a sucker for good books, ethnic food, and british humour.

My musical influences include a huge list, but here’s a sample: Opeth, Brian Transeau (BT), Loreena McKennitt, Ennio Morricone, Alan Parsons, Yanni, Samuel Barber, Dream Theater, Chopin, REM, Infected Mushroom and many others.

Be sure to visit the My Music page to listen to and download some of the various songs I’ve written over the years.

I am always happy to do performances for events (banquets, weddings, concerts etc).  Give me a shout if you’d like to book me for an event, or if you’re a big-name studio exec who wants to give me millions of dollars to sign with your label.

A bit of a gallery so you know who’s behind the music:
