Everyone knows Boston, right?  More Than A Feeling was a ridiculous hit.   That album, their 1976 debut (“Boston”) went platinum 17 times over.  Their more “recent” albums aren’t nearly as well known though.  “Walk On”, their 4th album, released in 1994, only went single platinum, and in 2002, “Corporate America” didn’t even do that well.  This is a huge shame, because honestly I like their later material more than their earlier stuff!

The MSMOTD for today, I Need Your Love (from “Walk On”) is absolutely, definitely, without a doubt their very best.  Hell, it’s one of the best songs ever.  Mainly because it is perfect.  It is perfect hard melodic AOR (Album/Arena/Adult Oriented Rock).  Wailing guitar solos, soaring vocals, smooth melodies, sweet harmonies and an emotional punch. I know this is heresy to all True Fans of Boston because “Walk On” didn’t feature traditional Boston vocalist Brad Delp (RIP), but it’s not my fault Scholz hit is songwriting peak in Delp’s absence!

Tom Scholz, the guitarist, writer and head of the band, is a notorious perfectionist.  It’s one of the reasons Boston only releases about 1 album every 8 years.  However, in this case, we benefit from his neurosis.  I also really like Corporate America, their most recent album.  Again, Boston purists might eat me alive here, but songs like I Had A Good Time and Livin’ For You and even the title track are just really great, catchy rock songs.    It’s too bad this music isn’t so popular anymore.

Anyways, hope you like the MSMOTD, and be sure to check out some of the other tunes on Youtube linked below!  The live performance of More Than A Feeling is great, and features some killer mustaches (for the ladies!).
